When booking a place to stay, please keep in mind that the Netherlands has a very efficient public transport system, especially around Amsterdam, and that it can be worthwhile to consider staying in other, close-by cities, like Haarlem, Utrecht or Leiden, with more affordable hotel options. Nearby alternatives

  • The city of Haarlem, for instance, a smaller city next to Amsterdam, is within 15 minutes of train travel from Amsterdam Central Station.
  • The city of Utrecht is only 26 minutes by train from Amsterdam Central Station. Utrecht is a lively university city, with numerous hotels and restaurants, and beautiful medieval canals.
  • Finally, intercity trains from Leiden will take you in 35 minutes to Amsterdam Central Station. Leiden is also a university city, with a wide variety of restaurants and hotels.
